Glossary
API Management | Application Programming Interfaces
API Management is the process of publishing, promoting and supervising application programming interfaces (API) within a secure and upgradeable environment.
AS1 | Applicability Statement 1
Message transport standard based on SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol).
AS2 | Applicability Statement 2
Message transport standard based on HTTP and the S/MIME standard, used in particular for EDI (electronic data interchange) traffic.
AS3 | Applicability Statement 3
Message transport standard based on FTP (File Transfer Protocol).
BAM | Business Activity Monitoring
BAM stands for Business Activity Monitoring and describes a platform used to monitor, operate and administrate a system’s activity. Such platforms offer the genuine ability to interact with processes running at the time, and are an essential addition to any information systems re-engineering strategy.
BPI | Business Process Integration
BPI is the ability to orchestrate asynchronous interfaces through a MOM (Message-Oriented Middleware) bus.
BPM | Business Process Management
BPM is Business Process Management which refers to a way of describing business processes in terms of their functional workflow, rather than in technical terms. A BPM system serves to process the functional, business view of sequences of events, while synchronising and orchestrating data flows (ETL, EDI, EAI), thereby making it possible to automate and optimise business processes.
Cloud Computing
Cloud computing consists of using remote computer servers over a network, typically the internet, to store or use data.
Coupling
Coupling is a metric measuring the level of interaction between two or more software components (functions, modules, objects or applications). Coupling is described as weak, low or loose when components do not exchange much data.
CFT | Cross File Transfert
A file transfer protocol that includes a larger number of checks than FTP (security, restart on error, acknowledgements of receipt, etc.)
CRM | Citizen Relationship Management
Citizen Relationship Management is a multi-channel approach aimed at centralising all information flows and different contacts between national and local government and their citizens in the form of households, community and non-profit organisations and businesses.
Data lake
A data lake is a data storage location used by big data.
A data lake can store structured, semi-structured or unstructured data.
EAI | Enterprise Application Intégration
Enterprise Application Integration or EAI describes an architecture used to manage and orchestrate interchanges between applications in real time. This makes it possible for applications to communicate with each other when they cannot do so natively. These are often highly critical data interchanges, running against very tight time constraints, unlike ETL jobs (see below) which process large volumes of data in batch mode.
EDI | Echange de données informatisées
An EDI architecture (for Electronic Data Interchange) serves to standardise data flows between two information systems (customers, suppliers or subcontractors) by means of structured messages. EDI messages are used to manage orders, deliveries, billing, bills of materials and similar business documentation in a standardised and secure way. Automating digitalised data processing in this manner means EDI helps to reduce paper consumption by making processes faster and more reliable.
EDM | Electronic Document Management
A computer system to acquire, file, store and archive the documents used by a business.
EII | Enterprise Information Intégration
A system providing a unified view of the various data in a business.
ESB | Enterprise Services Bus
Middleware used to implement a service-oriented architecture (SOA). An ESB or Enterprise Service Bus is a toolkit ensuring the security of data exchanges between sources and targets in an information system.
The central component of an ESB can be described as a channel used to convey data between applications (an “application bus”) which is intended to guarantee both the routing and persistence of data. Other tools within this bus provide dynamic data routing functions, mechanisms to handle transformations, queue management, authentication, encryption and so on.
ETL | Extract Transform and Load
An ETL platform (ETL for Extract, Transform and Load) is used to import data taken from a database, to modify it on the basis of functional, business rules, and then load it into other databases. Such tools are often used to deal with issues relating to large data volumes, such as data take-on and system migrations, or building a data warehouse. Unlike an EAI module, a platform of this type is not suited to business-critical real-time data interchanges.
FTP
A method for transferring files between remote servers via TCP/IP.
GDPR | General Data Protection Regulation
GDPR is the abbreviation for the General Data Protection Regulation, and it refers to the latest EU directive on personal data, published in 2016, and coming into force in member states on 25 May 2018.
HMI | Human-machine interface
The HMI, human-machine interface, very commonly simply the user interface, is how a person interacts with a machine, system or device. In theory, the term can refer to any screen enabling a user to interact with a device.
IOT | Internet of Things
IS | Information system
The information system (IS) is a central component in any business or organisation.
It is used by the various stakeholders to convey data and communicate, by means of a range of hardware, software and human resources. An IS creates, collects, stores, process and changes data in a vast array of formats.
MDM | Master Data Management
MDM or Master Data Management is a method by which a business can combine all its essential data in a single place (e.g. a portal) which then constitutes a common point of reference.
Blueway makes it possible for you to generate master data repositories directly integrated into your IS. You can consequently centralise all of the master data for your business and manage the data lifecycle (create, update, delete) in one place, from which the master data is transported to all relevant applications.
MOM | Middleware Orienté Message
MOM is middleware used to route messages between publishers and subscribers. This architecture takes charge of the routing and persistence of messages to subscriber interfaces.
Online service
An online service is defined as any information system enabling users to undertake administrative procedures or complete formalities electronically.
Pivot format
A pivot format, also known as a data interchange (or exchange) format, canonical format or a reference business object, is the benchmark functional entity for a specific business area.
Re-engineering
IS re-engineering is a method to foster information system enhancement and development.
It aims to break the information system down into independent, interoperable components, through standardisation, with the goal of making it more responsive to changes in business requirements.
RPA | Robotic Automatisation Process
RPA, standing for Robotic Process Automation, is an automation technology based on artificial intelligence and machine learning.
SCV| Single Customer View
The Single Customer View, SCV, is an information system providing one, all-encompassing picture of every customer in a multi-channel environment
Semi-interface
Connector from one application to another.
SOA | Architecture Orientée Services
A Service-Oriented Architecture is used to manage and orchestrate services that are exposed as web services.
TCP | Transmission Control Protocol
TCP is the transport layer (the fourth in the 7-layer model) of the TCP/IP stack.
URM | User Relationship Management
User Relationship Management is a multi-channel approach aimed at centralising all information flows and different contacts between and organisation and its IT users whether they are individuals, households, community and non-profit organisations or businesses.
WEBSERVICES
A web service is a computer interface protocol in the web technology family that enables communication and data interchange between differing applications and systems in distributed environments.
WORKFLOW
A workflow is a task automation process making it possible to automatically link various operations and quality control stages for tasks of varying complexity.
